Mal wieder nicht aus der MMO-Welt, zumindest nicht direkt. Aber dennoch so außergewöhnlich, dass es eine Erwähnung wert ist, denn so oft fliegen Spieledesigner schließlich nicht ins All. Richard Garriott, vielen wohl besser bekannt als Lord British, ist der erste britische Weltraumtourist (auch wenn er, der Vollständigkeit halber, auch die US-amerikanische Staatsangehörigkeit besitzt), der sich nun diesen Traum wahr machte. Spielern dürfte Garriott wohl vor allem wegen seiner exzentrischen Art und, natürlich, der Ultima Serie bekannt sein. Das letzte Spiel des Designers ist das Online-Rollenspiel Tabula Rasa. Und jetzt ist eben dieser Designer ins All gefolgen. Er selbst sagt dazu:

“Today, my dream of following in my father’s footsteps to explore new frontiers is being realized.”

“Throughout my life, my sense of adventure has taken me to the ends of the Earth to embark on journeys few people have encountered. It’s with honor and appreciation that I launch on my greatest adventure yet, and step into a role assumed by only five private individuals before me.”

Nach der UK Times Online dürfte Garriott der Spaß wohl um die 30 Millionen Dollar kosten. Hoffen wir, dass für ihn alles gut geht und das Abenteuer ein Erfolg wird. [via Gamasutra.com]
